Do you suffer from a chronic condition that limits your ability to exercise? If so, you might want to look into tai chi.
Researchers say tai chi is a safe, alternative way to get your body moving. Their study, published in The British Journal of Sports Medicine, indicates that senior adults with osteoarthritis, heart failure, chronic pulmonary disease, and cancer benefit from practicing tai chi regularly. Attending classes just two or three times each week helps seniors improve balance, strength, and posture. Practicing tai chi also relieves participants of disease related symptoms. Those who suffer from osteoarthritis, for example, feel a reduction in pain and stiffness.
Tai chi has become increasingly popular. If you are a member of a gym, inquire about the group fitness schedule, which is likely to include tai chi classes. If you don't belong to a gym, check your local recreation department to find out when you can get started.
