Don't exercise so long
The manager at your local gym would like you to get your exercise. He'd like you to come at least 3 times a week, for at least 30 minutes at a time, to get in a good workout.
Given many peoples' erratic schedule, this isn't always possible. Now researchers say it may not be the best way to condition your body, anyway.
Researchers, whose study was published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, found people who exercise for shorter time periods throughout the day enjoy unique health benefits. Subjects that worked out 3 times a day for 10 minutes had lower blood pressure overnight and the following morning than those who exercised all at once for the same amount of time.
So, if it is easier to break up your routine, do it! Run the steps in your house for 10 minutes, then take the kids to school. Walk the dog for 10 minutes at noon, then tackle your work. Play a short game of soccer with the kids after school, then cook dinner. Not only is this exercise strategy doable, it is effective. Now that's good news.
