Do you know about the Clean Fifteen?

You've probably heard about the Dirty Dozen: that group of fruits and vegetables containing high levels of pesticide residue.  Though it is better to eat these vegetables and fruits than skip them altogether, choosing organic versions of them can reduce your pesticide exposure, a worthy goal for any health-minded consumer.

But have you heard of the Clean Fifteen?  The Clean Fifteen is a group of fifteen fruits and vegetables that have little exposure to pesticides. Those items deemed clean have received less attention than their dirty cousins, but they are worth knowing about.  The Environmental Working Group claims you can safely eat the conventional variety of these fruits and vegetables, saving a little of your hard earned cash.

Since we could all use an extra buck in our pockets, I thought I'd share the list with you.  Here it is:

  1. Onions
  2. Sweet corn
  3. Pineapples
  4. Avocado
  5. Cabbage
  6. Sweet peas
  7. Asparagus
  8. Mangos
  9. Eggplant
  10. Kiwi
  11. Domestic cantaloupe
  12. Sweet potatoes
  13. Grapefruit
