Is your diet killing you?

Most of us diet to slim down and lead healthier lives. But recent studies indicate some of the most popular diets may put your health at risk.
Slimming down is an admirable goal, but before you embark on a diet, consider a few things:
- High protein diets, like the Atkins diet, are high in saturated fat. They've been linked to an increased risk of heart disease.
- Diets (and diet pills) that increase your metabolic rate may help you lose weight, but increasing your metabolism stresses your body, leading to health complications.
- Researcher Dean Ornish, founder of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute and author of "Eating for Health, Not Weight", found people who eat mostly vegetarian dishes can expect to see a decline or even reversal of many diseases, including coronary artery disease, prostate cancer, and Type 2 diabetes.
Is your diet good for your health? Take a good look at the foods you are consuming. Choose lots of fruits, vegetables, high protein beans, fish, and low-fat meats like chicken and pork.
