The bathroom scale: friend or foe?

They say ignorance is bliss, and nowhere is this theory more fully embraced than in the millions of bathrooms across America.  In these rooms, women across the country avoid using their scales with great abandon.  Thus, the occasional weight-in is often conducted in full nudity with extra efforts made to squeeze every drop of post-shower water out of the hair before stepping on the scale.

Where does this dread and paranoia come from?  The scale truly is your friend, and I have proof.  According to research from the University of Minnesota, people who weigh themselves daily can be up to 12-18 pounds lighter than those who avoid the scale at all costs.

Why?  Information is power.  If you weigh yourself regularly you will know when your weight begins to creep up, and you can do something about it immediately, before it gets out of hand.  This, my dear reader, can keep your weight from spiraling out of control.  It can keep you honest.  It can keep you thin.  It can keep you healthy.

So, if you have a scale, use it.  If you don't, get one.  I just bought a snazzy one at Bed Bath and Beyond.  I'd opt for an electronic scale so you aren't guessing what the numbers are.  I tend to like precision myself.
